Dhaka, Wednesday, 11 July, 018 (nongorrNews): The rivers flowing around Dhaka are the streets of the nature of Dhaka. Through the historical and political continuity of Dhaka, the flow of Buriganga, Shitalakshya, Turag and Balu rivers has played an important role in the development of Sujla-Sufla and protected civilization.

The well-drained water of these rivers has fulfilled the needs of the people as a source of agricultural irrigation, commercial transportation and fisheries. In just a few decades, the rivers around Dhaka have lost all utilities to AKA.

The untapped urbanization and industrialization of these rivers have lost normal quality of water. With the flow of the river freely, the great festivals of occupation. The highest court in the country had issued the directive to the government to protect and rescue the rivers of Dhaka in 2009.

After that, many officials of government authorities concerned to recover and protect Buriganga have been heard, to construct task force and to take projects worth thousands of crores. Though the money was spent on water, the river’s mortal remains still did not bother.

There is no progress in prevention of pollution control and toxicity. Under the direction of the High Court, the special task force formed to stop the boundary of the surrounding rivers, to freeze, preserve and pollute is being run in Namkawast.

With regard to the process of setting up the boundary of the river, there were 4,063 pillars for setting the boundaries of Buriganga, Shitalakshya, Turag and Balu by ignoring those questions.

In the 30th meeting of the Task Force River, after updating the situation, the report submitted that the 422 pillars were not placed in the right place, 148 pylons damaged by 264 pillars were not visible and the existence of 36 pillars was not found.

On the other hand, in a report of the National Environment Department regarding quality monitoring of river water, samples collected from Buriganga, Shitalakshya, Turag and Balu rivers during the dry season (January-May) are tested, the rate of oxygen presence in the rivers of these rivers is zero.

This condition of water is inadequate for aquatic and fishery. To save Buriganga, the government has undertaken a project of several crores of rupees, removing wastewater from Buriganga for some time, it has been seen that the removal of millions of meters of soil and channelization of the river from the Jamuna river increased the flow of water to Buriganga.

Even after the project expired, nothing worked. The UNDP report regarding the water supply of Dhaka city has also been described as a major threat to the river’s existence and water safety due to the severe pollution of the rivers around Dhaka.

In addition to Kaliganj, the Balu river mixed with the Shitalakshya. In the flood season, the Balu river carries water of Shitalakshya and Turag. The main importance of this river is to keep local water outflow and to continue shipping.
